My reacion to Mary Dalton's murder
Richard Wright the narrator of the book Native Son, introduces to us a character named Bigger Thomas who lives a life of poverty and has temper issues based on invasion of his space and fear. In the final reading of chapter 1, Thomas Bigger feels his space being invaded by Mary and is made feel uncomfortable. He hates her at the moment but he feels a physical attraction towards her. They were both under the influence of alcohol and did not have control over the situation. Soon, he confronted a very difficult situation because Mary Dalton was too drunk and had no control over her body and knocked out. Bigger had to carry her to her room and realized his job was on the line because he was told to never come close to their rooms, his place was on the basement and the car. Bigger then managed his way to get Mary to her room, but then she woke up and started teasing Bigger to have a relationship with her. Bigger then thought about the situation and let his other head do the thinking. Mrs Dalton walked in the room and Bigger had no choice but to stay where he was, when Mrs.Dalton asked Mary if it was her she tried to tell her it was her but since Bigger was there with her he covered her face with a pillow and eventually killed her. Bigger did not know what to do and decided to put her in the trunk of the Buick. She did not fit so he came up with another idea and decided to stuff her in the furnace. Her entire body fit but her head was hanging out, so Bigger grabbed his knife and started to cut her throat. A bone became an obstacle and his knife was not big and sharp enough to cut through it so he glanced around and found a hatchet. He threw newspaper around the head so blood would not get on the floor. Bigger then got rid of the head and hatchet by throwing them in the furnace along with Mary's body. He pulled the lever so more coal could come down and cover the body. My reaction to the murder Mary Dalton's death was not shocking or thrilling. My reaction probably would have been different if Ms.P would not of told us in advance what Bigger was going to do. Also, this is nothing new to me because I live in a city where Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is high within teenagers. My reaction did not involve a lot of emotional feelings because its something already expected within our society.
